Attractions of Braşov Area

Braşov is 48km north of Sinaia on the DN1 highway from Bucharest. Founded in 1895, Poiana Braşov first served as a touristic district for Braşov. The first hut ever built here was around the year 1904. In 1906, Poiana was designated as a winter resort, and three years later here took place the first Ski competition in Romania.

In the majestic Carpathian natural stronghold, lying on a shyly extending plateau at the foot of the Postăvarul Mountain, Poiana Braşov — "The Sunny Glade" — is a model of beauty. Located 12 km far from the Medieval town Braşov and over 1,020 m altitude, Poiana Braşov is nestled in a marvellous landscape offering the pleasure of its skiing tracks or of the wandering along the mountains' sinous paths. Poiana Braşov is surrounded by four main mountains: Postăvarul (1,799 m), Piatra Craiului (2,238 m), Bucegi (2,505 m), and Piatra Mare (1,848 m).

One great mountain (Postăvarul) surrounds half of the resort offering some of the wonderful skiing you will ever find. Poiana Braşov has long been known as a place to relax and unwind. For many years, people have come from all over the world to breathe the osone-rich air in Poiana. Many famous people, including famous Romanian footbal players as Hagi, have been said to have spent time here. In Poiana Braşov there is no lack of opportunities for camping, horseback riding or renting a mountain bicycle or a motorcycle tout-terraine and taking routes suitable to your ability. The area has everything to offer from scenic routes for beginners to thigh straining climbs and vertical descents for experts and racers.

For fun, tourists can find different choices from covered and uncovered pools, gym, sports fields, a lake with beaches, artificial skating-ring, strolls by couch or by sleight. You cannot avoid the ski paths on Postăvaru Peak (Predeal resort). The lovely views of the mountains' peaks can be seen by organizing short trips, near the resort or even longer to reach Postăvaru and Cristianu Mare cottages, which can be accessed only by cable railway, on Valea Cheii to Cheia cottage or towards Braşov passing by Pietrele lui Solomon (Solomon's Stones).
